Not only does it seem unreal that Max and Tyler are almost 4 months old, but every day seems to go by a little quicker too. As the 10pm feeding rolled around tonight, Andy and I asked each other where the day went. I think a big reason why the hours seem shorter is because the boys are getting more active and are awake more during the day. They make great eye contact with us and have both smiled a few times, although we're still not sure if they know what their smiles mean. Newborns aren't supposed to have real smiles until they are 6-8 weeks old, which according to their adjusted age isn't for another 3-5 weeks (they will be 3 weeks old adjusted on Sunday). Since they should catch up to their real age by the time they are 2 years old, we're thinking they will probably hit milestones somewhere in between their real age and their adjusted age. If that's the case, hopefully they really will be smiling in the next few weeks!
As Andy mentioned in the last post, he had his tonsils removed last Tuesday. Although this is no big deal for most children, it is a horrible recovery for adults. The doctor told him to plan on 10 full days to recover - and he wasn't kidding. The bad news is that he's been wiped out for a week and a half, but the good news is that he's been at home with us every day! He went back to work yesterday and we were very lonely without him. He's been a trooper though and helped feed babies throughout his whole recovery.
We've had a few big "firsts" for the boys this week. They took their first real bath in the tub this weekend, which is much more fun than the sponge baths we have been doing ever since they were born. They both seemed to enjoy it and love getting their heads shampooed. The other big first was a trip to Target last night! Since they have only been to the doctor and on walks around the neighborhood, this was quite the adventure. We put them in their stroller and covered their carseats with blankets since we still have to be pretty careful with germs, but it went great! Since it is still a pain to cart around their oxygen tanks and monitors, we probably won't be making tons of outside trips, but it was nice not to be trapped inside all the time.
We haven't been to the doctor in a few weeks so we don't know their exact weights, but we did put them on our bathroom scale the other day and they were almost 8 pounds! We have another appointment at Vanderbilt in a week so we'll find out then for sure. They have officially outgrown all of their preemie clothes though so we know they are getting big!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Every time I hold both boys it completely baffles me that I used to be able to fit both of them in the shelf of my tank top to do Kangaroo Care. I mean wow.
Here's how Tyler and Max tell us it's time to eat. Just a tiny glimpse into life with twins! Their cries aren't always as cute as Tyler's last video :) Tyler on the left, Max on the right again.

LOVE the "firsts" they have experienced...how exciting! Get ready, boys...Aunt Jenny is coming to town...
Bridget, Max really looks like he has caught up with Tyler. They look like they weigh the same!
I bet bath time was a "SPLASH"! :)
I'm sure your next visit to the Dr.
will be filled with good news, weight and no more oxygen (maybe only use at night).
Keep up the good job, they are beautiful little angels.
Luv u
Aunt Flash and Preston
P.S. I'm very sorry about Andy's uncle. But you have one more angel watching over all of you!
GREAT!! I can't believe how much older they already look....do they get hungry at the same time? Or does one start crying and the other thinks: oh yeah, it's time to eat...? :)
