Now that Max and Tyler are full-blown toddlers, I am having a hard time keeping them entertained all day long. We have a park in our neighborhood that we visit at least once a day, but I'd love some more indoor activities since A) it's been miserably hot in Tennessee lately, B) there are only so many "safe" outdoor activities when it's a 1:2 ratio, and C) we will be entering hibernation mode again in October due to their prematurity (until they are 2 - thank goodness we'll only have one more winter of this!). That means we have to stay away from public places too, like Gymboree or Little Gym or Children's Museums or large play dates.
Any suggestions? Are there any must-have toys that will keep their attention for more than 5 seconds? Maybe some fun games?
In the meantime, I guess I'll let them continue wreaking havoc on every cabinet in the house...
Thanks a bunch!!

I have a suggestion! Starts with "I" and ends with "NDY"!!! :) Hello basketball and busy season...good-bye Jenny and Bridget's lonely nights at home. :)
Hi Bridget! My mom and I were brainstorming...here's what we came up with: big building/Lego blocks, a cardboard box to climb through & put their toys in or big crayons to color with. She said Pat & I enjoyed these. Also, if none of these work, my mom said to let them go, even if that means being entertained by cleaning out your cabinets. :)
Another suggestion, come up for a Notre Dame football game and I will entertain them!! :)
Good Luck!

Anne & Rita
Jack absolutely loves cars and trains...he just started getting into them. There are big Tonka trucks and trains that have building blocks that come with it, those are good toys to have. Also, crayons and coloring books (keep them strapped in their buster seats for this). And pretty much anything that makes noise is entertaining for toddlers, maybe not for you though :) I also have one cabinet with tubberware that I let Jack play in, the others I lock up for my sanity.
Hope that helps!

Hi Bridget!
Totally know what you mean! We have a wonderful service called Birth to Five, we are in the Parents as Educators program. Basically, we have an "peer educator" come out once a month for an hour and she provides/suggests different activities for their developmental stages and also does a quick eval to ensure they are on track. The peer educator will stay with our family until the girls enter kindergarten. Like I said, wonderful program and what makes it even better is it's FREE!! I'm sure you have to have something like this in your area.
I said all that to say this...with inevitable winter hibernation...having someone come to YOUR home, play with the kids for an hour and without the extra germs is priceless!
I pray we all have a healthy winter and get another year under our belts!
Take care!

M&T's daddy and all his brothers and sisters grew up with pots, pans and spoons-don't ask me how Nana survived--but the advice to give them one cupbard they can go to is a good one--restain the others. Next time you come, we'll give you the big logo set. Love G-Pa Sam
Thank you all for the great suggestions!!!! I really appreciate it and have already started using a few ideas. Keep 'em coming if you have any more!
Hi Bridge! I know what you mean...keeping little ones busy in the cold months is a job in itself. Here are a few ideas.
1. Stickers! I know your boys seem small, but my kids always loved transferring stickers from the sticker sheet to a piece of paper. We use the craft box quite a bit from December - March!
2. We have also made our kitchen floor into a big easel. You can tape down brown or white packing paper (on rolls) and let them loose with crayons, washable markers, or finger paints if you're really brave!
3. When in doubt, make some edible play dough! I'll send you my recipe.
Good luck! Missy
Get a dog!
