The boys had an appointment with their pediatrician yesterday and he said they both are doing great! Getting awfully close to 6 pounds, Tyler weighs 5 lbs 14 oz and Max is right behind at 5 lbs 11 oz, which seems huge to us! Many people comment about how there always seems to be a 3 oz weight difference between the boys. Because they are still on restricted fluids, the doctors calculate the amount of milk they can take based on their current weight. Since Tyler weighed 3 oz more than Max when they were born, he has always received a little bit more food than Max. Right now Tyler gets 54 cc's/mL's of milk every 3 hours and Max gets 52 cc's. So until they can eat however much they want, Max will always be a little behind his brother. They are both great eaters and I'm sure they will eat all day long once their fluid restrictions are lifted. Tyler is now 18.5 inches long with a 35 cm head circumference and Max is 18 inches long with a 34.5 cm circumference. Although this is great growth for them, they are not even registering in the 1st percentile of size for their real age (almost 3 months). Once they hit their due date on May 11th, we will start comparing their growth to their adjusted age of how old they would be had they been born on their due date.
Max and Tyler also got their 2 month immunizations, which consisted of 3 shots in their legs to protect them from Hepatitis B, Polio, Pneumococcal Disease, Diptheria, Tetanus & Pertussis and Rotavirus. They both screamed bloody murder for about 3 seconds and then were completely fine. They were a little fussy all afternoon, but nothing some snuggling with mom couldn't fix. All in all it was a good appointment and Dr. Long is pleased with the boys' progress!
The March for Babies in Indianapolis took place last Sunday afternoon and apparently went very well! Team Max and Tyler was represented by my dad, sister, brother-in-law, two nephews, our family friend Missy and her two kids, and my high school friend Andrea and her mom and sister. We will definitely have to be there next year with Max and Tyler in tow! THANK YOU again to everyone who donated to our team. After surpassing our first goal of $2408 (for the boys' birthday of 2-4-08) we raised a total of $3725!! Your donations will help increase education about preterm labor and support research to give premature babies a chance to live and thrive.
Aunt Katie is in town for the weekend and we are having a blast! Hope everyone else has a great weekend as well.
