Max and Tyler were born two weeks ago! In some ways it's been the longest two weeks ever, but we already can't remember our lives without our tiny miracles.
Both boys are doing well today and Tyler has been responding to his antibiotics. His blood cultures came back negative for bacteria both yesterday and today, so as long as we get another negative result tomorrow, we should be good to go. He will have to stay on antibiotics for 10 days from his first negative culture to be sure the infection is completely gone. The bacteria was identified as a respiratory infection, which may or may not have come from the venilator he was on for the first three days. Because they pick up infections so easily, it's hard to tell exactly where it came from. It is great that Tyler is fighting this infection, but both boys will be at risk for the next few months. As always, keep these fighters in your prayers so they stay healthy!
On another good note, the boys are starting to gain weight now. Just like all newborns, they lost weight during their first 2 weeks (mostly fluids that they didn't need). As of this morning, Tyler and Max both weigh 1 lb 14 ozs - slightly more than Max's birth weight (1 lb 13 oz) and less than Tyler's birth weight (2 lbs 1/4 oz). Because Tyler's weight went down a bit while he was sick, Max was able to catch up. Looks like they are competing already! Here are a few pictures from the past few days:
Max with his eyes open
Tyler looking at Mom and Dad
Max relaxing on his tummy
Tyler making a face with his lips - he does this all the time!

Happy birthday, boys! They've only been here two weeks and are already so very loved. :)
Aw...cute pics...I can't believe they are still less than 2 pounds...hard to fathom! Glad things are heading away from infections! xo
WOW!!! Everytime I read your updates, I cry. I am SO glad the boys are doing well!! This all takes me back to when Caden was in the NICU. He's been home for 4 1/2 weeks now and is growing like a weed. Your boys are fighters like Caden and they will be home before you know it!! I remember the days of him starting off at 7cc's and incresing from there. Now he's eating almost 4 ounces at 2 months old!!! Now that they are gaining weight, they will grow like a weed!!! We couldn't weight to go in each night to see how mach Caden gained every day. When he hit 3 pounds, a week later we were bringing him home!! No joke! We thought we were never going to see the day!! There is a light at the end of the tunel and each day it will get brighter and brighter!! I know it's rough, but it will get easier. I am so proud of them!!! They are loved so much and we can't wait to meet them!! Caden can't wait to meet his NICU BFF's! Our little ND preemie's!! I am so proud!! From one NICY mommy to another...take in EVERYTHING the nurses are telling you, ask questions - even if you think they are dumb and most important, enjoy watching them grow and change everyday!! Before you know it, their little faces will start filling out, tummies are getting bigger, they are more alert, they hit the '1500' mark where they can start wearing little clothes, they hit 1900 and they are going HOME!!! It will all happen a lot faster then you think. :0) Then when you get home with them, if you are like me, I sat down and was like 'what am I supposed to do now' lol. Now my little 2 pounder is nearly 8 pounds!!! Anyways...I am so proud...so proud of them!! Happy Birthday boys!!! :0) Keep fighting!! :0)
I can't believe they're 2 weeks old already! I'm so happy to hear that they're doing well and fighting with everything they've got!
