TGIF

We had a good visit with the boys today and they are doing well. Max is still getting a lot of support for his breathing, but he hasn't had many apnea spells today, so we'll take what we can get! As we were leaving, we realized that this was the first visit we've ever had where neither of the boys' monitors went off (the monitors beep whenever their oxygen levels decrease or their heartrates drop). This typically happens at least once or twice (on a good day) for each boy while we're there, so a quiet hour is certainly reason to be happy!

We also had a great conversation with the boys' nurse today who not only had a son in the NICU several years ago, but has 10 year old twin daughters. Needless to say we had a lot to talk about! It still makes me sad that Tyler and Max aren't right next to each other all the time like they were in my womb, but she reassured me that they will still be inseparable. We are planning on putting them in the same crib for the first 4-5 months, so they better not get too comfortable in their own isolettes!

The best part of today's visit was the bonding we got to do with Max. Both boys are still on too much breathing support to be taken out of their isolettes, but the nurse said we could pick them up and talk to them through the glass. Tyler was too busy snoozing, but Max was wide awake so we held him and talked to him for several minutes. I didn't want to put him down! I can only imagine how amazing it is going to be to hold our sons without a wall in between us. Life in the NICU sure makes you appreciate those things that get taken for granted far too often. Thank you, Max and Tyler, for giving us a whole new appreciation and respect for life.

Chatting with Max

He really was awake, despite his eyes being almost closed here!

What a thrill to hold one of your little ones AND a visit without any monitors. The prayers continue.

I don't even know what to say....they are blessings. Little tiny, miracles from God. Each day gets better and you do get a new found love, respect and appreciation. Caden has opened my eyes to so many things in life. The moment you hold them close, you NEVER want to let them go. Just wait....it gets so much better.

Continuing to pray.....
