The boys started being fed breastmilk when they were only two days old. They have a feeding tube that goes in their mouths and straight to their stomachs. This tube is always in place and will be until they are old enough to feed from a bottle. Every baby is different, but the doctors said preemies usually suck from a bottle around 34 or 35 weeks gestation. Once this happens, they will be close to going home as well.
Max and Tyler are fed every three hours. They started with 1 cc (1 ml) of milk per feeding and have continued increasing their feedings since then. Today they are both receiving 11 cc's per feeding. This means Bridget spends much of her time pumping milk to take to the hospital. At the recommendation of her doctors, she rented a hospital grade pump to keep up with the boys' needs. By the time they are ready to come home, they will be taking 40-45 cc's of milk per feeding. I usually leave the accounting to Andy, but by my calculations that equals more than 600 cc's/ ml's per day! In all seriousness, I feel like this is one big thing I can do for the boys so I won't complain. Next task: figuring out how to nurse two babies at one time!
The milk goes from a syringe down the orange tube into the boys' bellies. Here is Bridget "feeding" Max.

Bridge - you're a maniac! I am so impressed! A hospital grade pump?!
Thanks for the updates - the boys look like they're enjoying their meals :)
I really think they look bigger. How much do they weight now? Can you give a measurements update? :)
I agree with Jenny...I swear they look bigger already! I am definitely in withdrawal. Thank goodness I'm coming back next week!!
That is fantastic, Bridget! You're doing so much good for those adorable little guys. Grow big, boys! And from a fellow twin mom still breastfeeding her twins - you'll do GREAT tandem feeding those boys, once they're ready for it. A little awkward at first...but it becomes second nature in no time at all. And boy is it a timesaver. Hugs to you all, and THANK YOU for sharing your awesome blog with everyone - I've loved reading it!

I agree with Jenny and Molly. At this rate, they will have their daddy's big feet in no time! Tyler already has his dad's eyes (aka "slits"....he is definitely a Jones!) :)
I absolutely love the blog! You two are the best... Max and Tyler couldn't ask for better parents.
Love you all, miss you, and cant wait to meet my little nephews! Katie
You sweet things! Congratulations on precious Tyler and Max. What handsome dolls they are. We are so happy for you and all of you are in our prayers. Bridget and Andy, you are wonderful parents---love looking at the pictures of the two of you tending to your little angels. God is with you.
Please take care of yourselves as well.
Love and hugs,
Wayne & Mary Porter
