Bug Off!

You know how they say that as a parent you will forever worry about your children? Well we understand this more now than ever.

Tyler has a bacterial infection and is currently being treated with three different antibiotics. The doctors noticed that he was acting lethargic on Wednesday morning and his color was a bit pale. Suspecting an infection, they did preliminary blood cultures that came back positive for bacterial growth. Because the boys were born so prematurely, infection is unfortunately a big risk. Their immune systems are not fully developed so they can not fight infections as well as a full-term infant.

We visited the boys twice today and Tyler is looking much better. He is moving around alot and crying again (yes, they do cry at this age!) so it looks like one of the antibiotics is helping. The doctors will continue to send blood cultures every day until it comes back negative for infection. We are also waiting for results to find out what type of infection he has. Hopefully it will be a bacteria that is treated by the 3 antibiotics he is currently on, but if not they will explore alternative treatments. They did a spinal tap to test for meningitis (which would obviously not be good), but thank god that came back negative.

This is why the NICU is often referred to as a roller coaster ride. We have been worried sick but know we must put our faith and trust in the doctors, the boys, and in God. Just another challenge our little fighters must overcome.

On a positive note, Max seems to be doing well. His white blood cell count was also elevated on Wednesday, but as of today his blood count is back to normal. He was on an antibiotic just to be safe, but the doctors took him off of it today since he's doing fine.

One day at a time!

Ok. I just logged in today to read up on all the blog. They are so moving and I have already teared up several times!! The updates are written so well - you feel like you are RIGHT THERE with you guys through everything. The pictures are so wonderful, and I enjoy getting to see them and read how they are doing. I will have to show Mason this, as he will think that is just awesome. He prayed for these boys to make it into this world heathy and I know it will mean so much to get to see how they are and have me read the updates to him.

You guys are truly blessed and I know you realize that each and every day. Let us know anything we can EVER do to help. I can't wait to hold the boys!!

Love, Tammie, Will, Mason & Tanner
