4 Month and 3 Year Check-Ups

Max and Tyler had their 3 year check-up this week and Maisie had her 4 month check-up last week. We got a new pediatrician when Maisie was born and she is wonderful. We've seen her several times with Maisie, but never for the boys (although they are usually with me for Maisie's appointments and have met the doctor before). Anyway, when we started Max and Tyler's well visit she asked, "Now how early were they born?" I had mentioned it to her before, but we never had a long discussion or anything. So I told her 26 weeks and her jaw dropped. She said that never in a million years would she have guessed that they were born so early. Along with a physical exam, she also quizzed them using a fun tool that made shapes and color on the wall. They did great and she said they answered some advanced questions too.

As they have since birth, Max and Tyler still weigh within ounces of each other - around 26.5 pounds (10th percentile), and they are both 36 inches tall (also 10th percentile). Although their early arrival in life may have something to do with their size, it may have just as much to do with genetics as Andy and I were both late bloomers and didn't get our height until high school! One new development is that Max and Tyler are now being treated as if they are asthmatic. The doctor said she won't write on their charts that they "have asthma" because they could outgrow it at any time, but we are going to treat them as if they do. They've had two colds in the past month, and both times they've ended up with bad coughs and wheezing. Both of them also have had pneumonia a few times, and anytime they get a cough it lasts for weeks. They are currently using a nebulizer (a machine that produces a mist that they inhale) with steroid medicine for their wheezing. They will do this twice a day for 2 weeks and then every night until April. Then next fall from October until April, they will do the same treatment every night before bed. It'll be a pain but obviously worth it if it helps strengthen their lungs. Asthma is very common for babies born so early, so this isn't a shock to us. Hopefully they will outgrow it though!

Maisie had her 4 month appointment and is doing great. She weighed 12 lbs 7 oz (25th percentile) and is 25 inches long (75% percentile). Her eyes are a really pretty blue and we're hoping they stay that way forever. M&T had steel blue eyes when they were born, but theirs turned hazel after a few months (just like me and Andy). She's still a great baby and happy as ever!

4 months old! See previous months here.

Cheeseball yet again

Eh?

She still loves her hands

Go Butler!

It snowed (again!) this week but since we all had colds, I decided to bring some snow inside instead of going out to play. Here's Max with his snowman with two carrot noses, tortilla chip ears, and raisin eyes.

Tyler with his snowman

Big Jim was so awesome and offered to come over on Friday night so Andy and I could go do something for a few hours. We went to see The King's Speech (great movie!!) and came home to this. As I walked in the room, Max was the last to climb up and said to my dad, "We're havin' a party!" Then he said "Mama, take our picture." So of course I did. Thanks again, Dad - you are the best!

Good God those dimples make me melt. Can't imagine what they're going to do for boys someday. I love the inside snow party - so creative, Mama Bridge.

I second the snow party, never thought of that....but why not? Looks like lots of fun at the Jones household, especially when there is a party hosted by Big Jim.
I think Big Jim is a push-over!!
Love and Kisses to all.

hi..i still think that these two boys are one of the cutest out there!!! besides my two maybe? hey, i just wanted to chime in that yes, many kids are late-bloomers. it is likely to happen with my twins as well (36-weekers, healthy, but very very skinny). they will not weigh 26lb like max and tyler at 3 years because at 30 months they are just 22.5-23.5lb, but they are already 36 inches. doctors told us, too, that they will stay skinny until high school or later and will grown in length at the same time. my hubby is tall, though, 6"3. but one of his cousins, who is 6"4, was 5"5 when he finished high school and grew that much during college!!! so hey...but i would not mind if my boys gained a little weight, though...

and maisie- she is just perfect!!!

do your boys wear 2t or 3t? we are in 3t because of lenght but need maybe 12-18 months in waist (shorts will be great this summer!).....sorry for the long comment.... esther
