Last weekend Andy and I went to Mackinac Island, in far northern Michigan, for our good friend Faith and Mark's wedding and got a much-needed weekend away. The boys stayed in South Bend with Nana and Grandpa Sam, where they had so much fun I'm not sure they even realized we were gone! Mackinac is a no-cars island with tons of bikes and horse-and-buggies all around. We stayed at a cute hotel right on the water and had a blast with all of our friends. The wedding was gorgeous and SO much fun -- we didn't want to weekend to end!!
As parents of young kids (of all ages, I'm guessing) it is so easy to put everyone else's needs before your own and not take the breaks that all parents need. Of course we were sad to leave the boys, but that lasted all of 5 minutes once we realized how much kid-free fun we had ahead of us!
Our lives were forever changed when we became parents, and weekends like this are such a great reminder of the foundation upon which we've built our little family. We might not be able to do whatever we want whenever we want like we could before kids, but with the support of great family and friends, we can still get away for a night -- or an entire weekend! And the best part? We get to come home to hugs from our two favorite little guys.
Thanks again, Nana and Grandpa, for allowing us such a wonderful weekend away!! And congrats to Faith and Mark!!

CONGRATS CONGRATS to Faith!
And triple congrats to a weekend away. Funny, Jason and I just had our first mini vacation on Monday, it's so true that we (as parents) need a little soul refresher to remind us that underneath all of the parental layers (snot, milk, food, juice and who knows what else) that we are actually the same people we once were!
Miss you and all of those girls! And really can't wait (fingers crossed) to meet those beautiful boys some day!
HUGS!
Terri
You two look like newlyweds. What a fantastic place to get away and what an exciting occasion to celebrate. The only two happier people were Nana and Grandpa Sam!
And I would have loved to have seen the smiles on the faces of Max and Tyler when they saw Mom and Dad.
Beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing!
Love,
Dad/Big Jim
looks like you guys had an amazing and well-deserved time away!
We were definetely the winners here--oh, I'm sure Bridget and Andy had fun too !! G-Pa Sam and Nana. I just remembered--when Chris and Kel(and maybe Kate) were young, my parents lived in Petosky. We went up there for a visit and Linda and I took a get-away night to Machinaw Island !!
