Vandy Grads

At the young age of almost 6 months, Tyler and Max are officially Vanderbilt graduates. As of yesterday, they are no longer in need of treatment from the Vanderbilt oxygen specialists and were officially discharged from the clinic! The doctors were pleased with their weight gain and see no reason to bring them back for treatment. They also gave us the okay to send back all of Max and Tyler's oxygen equipment - including the apnea monitors. We were still using the apnea monitors at night but were told we can discontinue use whenever we want. Because they are getting so big, they have been wiggling out of the monitors and setting off the alarms almost every night. At this point there is no risk of apnea spells and an extremely low risk of SIDS, so Andy and I decided to ditch the monitors and finally have completely wire-free kids! Although I checked on them more than usual last night during their first time without the monitors, we feel confident that this is the best decision. I guess we really have "normal" babies now!

Both boys are growing well and are doing great for their adjusted age of almost 3 months (based on their May 11th due date). Max takes the cake (no pun intended) for weight gain and has finally surpassed Tyler! He weighs 11 lbs 12 oz and Tyler weighs 11 lbs 9 oz. Here are their current growth stats and percentiles based on their adjusted age of almost 3 months:

Max
Weight: 11 lbs 12 oz (36th %)
Length: 57 cm/ 22.4 in (18th %)
Head Circumference: 40.5 cm (50th %)

Tyler
Weight: 11 lbs 9 oz (25th %)
Length: 57.25 cm/ 22.5 in (20th %)
Head Circumference: 40.75 cm (51st %)

Another important calculation they do is weight-for-length percentile, which determines how well they are gaining weight based on their length (rather than based on their age). They try to shoot for anything over 50% and Max is 65% and Tyler is 56%. Go chunks!

Needless to say we were happy with the appointment yesterday. The boys are still sleeping great at night so we can't complain there either! We put them down around 9 or 10pm and they sleep until 5 or 6am when they nurse and then go back to sleep for another 3 hours. It feels nice to finally be back in the land of the living!

I haven't taken any pictures in the past few days but here is a random one from the weekend. Have a great day!

Yay! Congratulations!! Can't wait to see the little "chunks" tomorrow and celebrate in person.

Their Daddy was a 3 month old "chunk", so they get it honestly. Remember the famous picture with the baseball cap on sideways? We will have to duplicate that shot next week during their visit.

Bridge & Andy:
Love the photo of the boys with Max holding his belly. Very appropriate. What terrific news and another two advanced degrees from Vanderbilt for the Jones' family.
Max & Tyler are acting normal but they will always be extraordinary.
Love,
Dad
