First 4th of July

Tyler and Max spent their first Independence Day with their grandparents, Nana Linda and Grandpa Sam. They got in town on Friday afternoon and we had such a great time. We even took the boys to a 4th of July festival with food, games and live music. They rode around in their jogging stroller and seemed to like all the action around them. We all kept commenting about how nice it was to finally be like a "normal" family - out and about with no oxygen or monitors. As more time goes by, it is really getting harder to remember exactly how hard those first few months were. We are having a blast now so it was all worth it!

This was a monumental weekend because I spent my first nights away from the boys! I am the matron of honor in my best friend Jenny's wedding next month and her bachelorette party was in Bloomington, Indiana this weekend. It took me a while to tear myself away from them on Friday night, but they did great - and I survived too :) We had a really good time and it was so fun to be back at my old college stomping grounds (IU). As I was nearing Nashville on my drive back, I couldn't wait to see Max and Tyler and realized I hadn't been that excited for something in a long time. I swear they looked about 3 pounds bigger than they did when I left two days earlier!

Everything else is going well and the boys are sleeping about 8 hours every night, which is so nice! They are eating 120 mL (4 oz) every 3 hours during the day - about 3 times more than they were eating when they came home in April.

Here are a bunch of pictures from the past few weeks. We hope everyone had a great holiday weekend!

Nana Linda and Andy with the boys at the 4th of July festival. The shade on the stroller is pretty big, but it doesn't quite cover every inch of the boys (hence the blanket to cover their feet and the hats)

Grandpa Sam, Tyler and Andy
We decided to cram everything into my Mazda Tribute - including Linda and the stroller in the way back/ trunk

Max on left, Tyler on right in their preppy Polo onesies from Big Jim. I thought Tyler's surprised face was funny

Andy with the boys at 5 months old (Tyler on left, Max on right)

Almost 2 months old. Notice that their entire heads fit in Andy's hand with extra room to spare.

Tyler on the left, Max on the right

We think the boys are starting to realize the other one exists. Whenever we put them down on their play mat that immediately touch each other and occasionally stare at each other too.

Thing 1 (Tyler) and Thing 2 (Max) from Dr. Seuss

Hanging out with their friend Caden, who was born 8 weeks early and is now almost 7 months old. It was so funny because he put his hand on Tyler's head and kept it there for a long time

Andy's cousin Phil and his wife Nona visited us from Virginia when they were in town for work. They used to live in Nashville and we stayed with Phil the very first time we ever visited this awesome city. It was after that visit that we knew we wanted to live here one day, so thanks Phil! (with Tyler in the picture)

What a fun posting, Bridge. Sam and Linda looked like they had a ball. The boys are getting so big and will provide you and Andy with many laughs in the days and years to come. How distant are those days in the NICU now that they are safe and sound in your loving home? Can't wait to be with you.

They're sleeping 8 hours?!?! That's awesome - I didn't know that. When I told my mom all about the bachelorette weekend, she asked "Were Max and Tyler on the boat with you all, too?!" "Yes, mother. Two 10 lb. 5-month old twins spent 6+ hours on a boat with 15 rowdy girls in the sun." Geez. But secretly I wish they WOULD have been there. :) Thanks for making the trip - I know it wasn't easy being away from all 3 of your boys!
